Final

Artist Statement: My interpretation of the final project was inspired by the impermanence of humans and the permanence of their creations. In a world when and where humans vanish, they leave behind their adaptations and technology. Life is extinguishable but the structures that humans made will last long after they are gone. Drawing on my knowledge of anthropology, I narrowed my focus to liminal spaces and persistent places. Laundromats have slowly faded into obscurity and ambiguity as a place with a function but not a space where one willing spends time. They are a location with a ritual.

Each lighting palette is different for each photograph, but all carefully chosen to convey a sense of nostalgia and an ominous sense of abandonment. It is now common to have an in-unit washer and dryer in a home, but before they were considered a luxury. The times have changed and at a rapid pace, subsequently forcing technologies to do the same.
